When policy contradicts philosophy.

So often we confuse workplace policy (company rules that guide actions) with workplace philosophy (company espoused values). Even more often we implement company policy without aligning it to company philosophy.

 

‘Thriving at Work’ and 

‘Embracing Diversity’ workplace philosophies that espouse values like  ‘respect for the individual’ are being translated into return to office policies that treat employees the way managers want to be treated without regard for how employees want to be treated. 

 

Be careful of confusing contradictions. You may want to be judged by your good intentions, but employees can only judge you by your visible actions. Align what your company says with what your company does.
