How many of us really understand cookies? Not gingerbread or choc chip, but data cookies – the tiny pieces of data stored on your device when websites are loaded in a browser. These text files are widely used to remember you and your preferences. Many of us just hastily click ‘accept cookies’, more focused on the website we are accessing, than protecting our data privacy. And then we wonder why our inboxes are filled with advertisements we never asked for. Next time, take the time to read what you are signing up to. While you have to accept necessary cookies, you can decline some functional, performance or targeting cookies.
Don’t take your data privacy lightly. Opt in or opt out, but at least make the choice.
While you have the right to be remembered, you also have the right to be forgotten.
